People of Myanmar are fond of festivals. We have a festival for every month. During the water festival ,water splashing each other Most are religious significance and a few are secular in nature. According to the Myanmar calendar, the year begins with Tagu (April ) and ends with Tabaung (March). The popular festival is Thin Gyan (in April) water festival of Myanmar new year. In Thin Gyan Festival people enjoy themselves at water throwing at one another. Some young people going around the town by car, singing and shouting songs. Older spend the time at monasteries and pagodas observing the sabbath and meditating.
Pouring water to Bodi tree in Kason Nyaung Yay Thun Pwe ( May ) Next is Kason Nyaung Yay Thun Pwe, held in Kason (May), the hottest month when ponds and lakes dry up. People celebrate pouring water on Bo tree (that under which Lord Buddha attained enlightenment) so as not to die. Fish from dried up ponds are caught and released in places where there is more water.
The Sarpyanbwe (competitive examinations for monks) are held in Nayon (June). (July) Waso (the mark of beginning of Buddhist Lent). People offer alms and robe to the monk. Some go out to pluck flower to offer Lord Buddha. (August) Wagaung the festival is Sayetan Pwe. Buddhist believers take responsibility of offering alms to monk determined by drawing lots. Whoever draws the lucky lot considers himself to be honoured by the privilege given to him.
(September) is the Taw Tha Lin month. Boat races are held throughout the country. The best time to visit the Inlay lake where pagoda festival, special occasion for leg rowers to carry Buddha images to the whole lake area. (October) the month of Tha Ding Gyut the end of the Lent. During the festival people believe Buddha return from Heaven so in many building are brightly lit up candles and lights welcome to Buddha.
Next is (November) Tazaung Mon people lit up with colorful lights. Especially in Taung Gyi people send off fire balloons. Young maidens show their talent of weaving and stitching robe before the break of dawn to offer Buddha. (December) Nadaw the Nat Pwe (Spirit) are held in honor of Nat at Popa. (January) Pyatho Myin Khin Thabin are held it's a display horsemanship as well as sword and marksmanship in the use of javelin or spear. (February) Tabodwe the harvest festival (Htamane Pwe) made up of glutinous rice.
The last festival is (March) Tabaung, alms are offered to the monks. As hot weather sets in, the sand appear river banks. So people make miniature pagodas with sand and decorated with pebbles.
In every month our country have colorful festival, so worth to come and participate with us.
